As you know 35mm chip and 3.6un pixels are a big ask for any telescope, also after keeping an eye on things over the winter and spring galaxy season I think I would like to run a suggestion by you :)

Remove the reducer and use at native F5

Pro's

  • Smaller FOV so more adaptable across more of the year (galaxy season etc)

  • Better sampling rate

  • Sharper stars to the corners

Neg's

  • Slower data collection, although in my opinion you will hardly notice any difference due to the sensor that's fitted and 300s will still be the longest sub needed.

  • Smaller FOV for the big summer nebula season

Please come back to me with your thoughts on this, as I said this is me thinking out loud more than anything but I feel the scope was under utilised throughout the Spring season due to the type of objects available, Perhaps this is a good way of giving it a better all season appeal with very little I can see on the negative side of the scales ?

Not at all :)

as I said before, it’s your pier so if it sleeps all night then that’s not down to me

However, when I checked earlier we have 5 clear nights at 5/6hours a night on average so that’s 25+hrs imaging time and from what I could tell there was not 25hrs imaging in the pier ?

All I am trying to do is maximise the imaging time you have available before we Strip it down next week :)

If it stays clear I would hope almost all the work in the image above will be finished this evening or very early tomorrow night :)

I fully appreciate what you are saying Steve but in the absence of data at this moment for jobs that have recently completed, we cannot assess what we may need to further submit to make up for insufficient integration time on any of those. Richard has gone ahead to request 6 hours of oxygen data on the Flying Bat which we know we'll need, but that has had the unfortunate effect of stopping job 1016 finishing last night. Since we have no means of prioritising jobs that was always likely to happen.

I'll submit some for each of those targets we've not got the data back from to cover ourselves. I'm reluctant to add any new target since that could end up using valuable time, not complete and deny us the data we'd prefer. I'll attempt to ensure 20 plus hours are entered.

Thanks for the heads up.

Cheers,

Ray

Just submitted a series of jobs, I was a bit premature hitting the Enter key on one before having entered the exposure times. :(

Over 26 hours total integration time entered all of which we can add to existing, as yet not received data. Each between 2.5 and 3.5 hours
long. Apologies for the lateness of these submissions Peter and Steve.

Thanks,

Ray

cool

quite a few gig in data sets takes a day to zip, then its transferred to a NAS drive so we have a hard data back up and finally it gets uploaded to the server. With this many jobs and a 60mp camera this does take forever lol

in fact Phil has had to build a special section on the NAS because P14 takes up so much room, good job I have almost 100tb of backup storage in Spain.

I forgot to update the list Steve - all datasets are now fully uploaded and ready to be downloaded :)

Ray, Richard - Can you please download a maximum of two at a time please :)

Regards, Phil.

Ray,

I am a bit bogged down in a project at the moment, as well as trying to complete the setup of a new scope in my observatory.

Do you think with the additional jobs I have submitted and your 26 hours, we have enough for the moment? I can try and find a few more jobs tomorrow if needed.

Hi Richard,
No worries at all, I've the luxury of being retired. There is plenty of data to be collected there and I've even added a bit more to those you already requested more data including The Flying Bat. Having all that extra data should make our lives easier when it comes to processing. If they don't all get completed then we're no worse off than before.

Again Steve, thanks for what you are putting yourself through to get things done for everyone.

Cheers,

Ray

Good morning,

Crikey, talk about quick service, a few I entered late yesterday have already been started.

One query though about job 01028. This job is an additional 5 hours of oxygen data for the Flying Bat nebula. Yesterday it was nearly completed, today it isn't in the joblist so I assume is completed. It is probably the case that overworked Phil has not yet been able to update the submission list where it is not yet flagged as being completed. Just mentioning it now, as I appreciate how difficult it must be to keep track of multiple jobs across multiple piers, and things can easily be overlooked. It is after all part of our responsibility as well, since it is us submitting these jobs.

Cheers guys,

Ray

Ray, they only get marked as completed in the submission list when I am currently working with them :)

It will be available later this afternoon

Phil,

Thanks, I think. :) Having to archive off some stuff to make enough room for this lot. Maybe a bit of well deserved peace and quiet for you over the next couple of weeks. Perhaps a bit longer if Spain becomes a red zone and the guys end up in a stuffy hotel for 10 days.

Well, Bon Voyage guys, hope things go really well and you can get back ahead of time. Don't envy you right now though.

Cheers,

Ray
