A few broadband images, a couple of which were taken when there was that obstruction, so have been cropped more than others .

Leo galaxy clusters, Sunflower galaxy, Shark nebula, NGC188 Cluster near, but not including Polaris.

I'd have much preferred to not post this image, as it has had a lot of devious manipulation carried out on it to suppress the hydrogen alpha data in the central area. Not too successfully either. :(

The Flying Bat nebula, showing partly as the red ha part of the image, contains The Squid 'OU4', something that requires hours of oxygen data capture. The Squid is definitely there in our data, but not easy to separate from the more intense hydrogen data around it By me anyway. Now I am aware of someone who is part of the Roboscopes team that does an amazing job on extracting out faint detail. I know the resulting image would be one of the best taken so far. Laying down a challenge. :)

Cheers,

Ray

A nice collection Ray. Looking good!

Thank you Richard. Still not able to achieve a good colour combination a lot of the time. Often not able to adjust a particular colour to any great extent for some reason.

How's M31 progressing, if you have been able to find the time. I'm giving up on the surrounding hydrogen data for now, and satisfying myself with the more traditional image. Will retry a little later.

Cheers,
Ray

I find I spend more time on getting a colour combination I am happy with than almost anything else. My main tool is curves transformation and I try a lot of variants.

Not touched M31 since I did the preliminary processing. Got a push on at the moment with a project I am working on and also dealing with the disruption of a new heating system being installed. I'll get there.

M16 Eagle nebula

I was able to use approximately 11 hours of colour data by cropping out the central area of the nebula M16 from the M16 and M17 mosaic project, where it appeared on both panels, and then combining them. :)  Good planning on the part of Florent who submitted the mosaic in the first place. The luminance came from around 5 hours of Ha data captured on pier 1.

M31 Andromeda

Not able to do justice to all that Ha data that was captured so decided to post what I did get. Never mind.

This was done before Richard's great piece on doing mosaics, dealing with the problems at overlaps particularly with stars. This would be a very good illustration of such issues, but not so apparent at the 30 percent reproduction shown here, as is very obvious on the full size image.

Using my updated mosaic process on the NGC7000 mosaic, I got data clean enough to push further. This is where I got to. Probably oversaturated, but interesting I think.

Hi Richard,

A tad oversaturated but not by nearly as much as I've seen. Makes it far easier to look for the joins anyway. What joins?

Just personally a tiny desaturation? Irrespective of that definitely one for the gallery.  Would be way up there in the list of Astrobin submissions for the North American and Pelican in one shot, plus the bonus of the third frame. Cannot recall what that one is in that frame offhand.

Patience has its rewards.

Best Regards,

Ray,

The third panel is Sh2-119 the Clamshell Nebula. It is much weaker than the NA and Pelican, so I am now experimenting with just the two panes. Getting the Clamshell looking OK messes with my ability to get the best out of NA and Pelican. In particular, dealing with the background. I think the Clamshell may be better treated as a separate image, processed rather differently.

Will tone down the saturation. I do like the soft pastels you have been getting out of your processes. It feels more realistic.

Richard,

I agree with you about separating out that third frame and looking forward to the 2 panel one you produce. You might have to put that on a lower priority with all the untouched data you must have tucked away in, I was initially going to say a corner, a darn great corner of your disk. :)

My memory is terrible without first checking up on things, but I believe there is a submission for some RGB data and Ha in the pipeline for that, which if the coordinates correspond closely, you may want to incorporate.

I think I'll revisit that myself using just the 2 panels and apply your technique, rather than diving into the deep end with the Sadr one.

Cheers,

This is the first shot at the two-pane mosaic. I also cropped it to focus on the two main nebulae. Probably still rather saturated for many tastes, but I wanted to bring out the contrast between the green-gold and the blue. Hit by the new restriction on images in forum posts, so here is the overview:

NA-Plican_RS.png

And a couple of zoom-ins that show some pleasing features:

Hi Richard,

Excellent, and also a very pleasing aspect ratio with that one less panel. Not too saturated in my 'umble opinion, and a real eye-catcher. Those close ups certainly show just how versatile this setup is.

Now a shameless plug. :)

If you like getting your money's worth, then with three for the price of 2, this may be the ideal syndicate for you. :(

Richard,

Fabulous image. I'd always assumed that when we posted in the forum we were seeing them in their full glory, obviously we weren't. Stunning detail and processed brilliantly when you know what star issues there are.

Regarding my silly quote that had you puzzled, it was just something that Steve could use to attract more interest in the Syndicate. That mosaic together with the accompanying crops demonstrates that on occasions you can extract more than one great picture from one capture. In this instance, 3 great pictures from 2 captures.

Apologies for the resulting confusion it created. Not that it's any consolation, but I knew what I meant. ")

Bes regards,

Ray

And that is still the cut down version. Even more detail in the original.

we will have to figure out a way to swap originals for study and pleasure. Always interesting to see the different aesthetic and technical decisions different people make.

Finally managed to process the Sadr 4-pane mosaic.

Here is my preliminary result you can compare with those from Vikas and Ray
