A few broadband images, a couple of which were taken when there was that obstruction, so have been cropped more than others .

Leo galaxy clusters, Sunflower galaxy, Shark nebula, NGC188 Cluster near, but not including Polaris.

This is an attempt with the recently completed vdB-152 data in LRGB. I found it quite tricky to pull the nebula out of the murk, and ended up with some visible artefacts on the brighter stars that need individually treating. But this is probably the weakest object I have yet managed to generate a usable image from.

Indeed, a tough one. I have also made an attempt. I included the Ha data as well. As I am new to multi-channel image processing (I only own an OSC), maybe you have some tricks to improve on this.

Regards

Manuel

Manuel,

That is very nice. I did mine before the Ha was available, so it is probably time to have another go.

That is most welcome to see Richard and I'm liking what you have already achieved from the data since I'm aware of how much recent imaging has been affected by the weather. You have managed to frame it very nicely, a lot in there to see. I can't recall when you originally suggested this target, but I know it was some time ago. Certainly it has been worth the wait. :)

I have been running 'blink' on the data we have received these past couple of weeks, and finding a lot of the data affected by the sky conditions, something which frequently happens this time of the year. The question therefore is what do I have a go at next bearing in mind how much time it can take to get to the end of a first process on pier 14. So you have greatly helped out with this decision.

Please submit a job to replace the unusable data since it will not be possible to frame this target without a mosaic once the scope is altered.

Hope all is well,

Cheers,

Ray

PS
Perhaps you'd consider reposting your image on the new topic I've just created for images processed in 2022.

First process of Job 1239 - IC2177 the Seagull Nebula.

IC2177Final(SM).jpg

We lost a lot of subs to poor sky conditions so in the end this was only made from 16xHa, 17xO3 and 20xS2 - all at 240s exposure.

Processed in Pixinsight with Ha as a pseudo-luminance.

O3 and S2 were pretty noisy and I may resubmit those two filters for additional data.

That's superb Richard and there appears to be a lot of 'stuff' there, so I wonder what the addition of Ha will reveal. Maybe something worth submitting to pier 1 for a closer look later. I'm very aware of how tricky these murky areas of the sky can be to process and made to look 'natural', something I need to get to grips with, so this looks like a good one to have a go at. Also thanks to Hao for making this submission.

Cheers,

Ray

It was definitely a fun dataset to work with, so yes my thanks to Hao as well. Definitely one for the overnight WBPP run. Lots of subs. It will be interesting to see what you come up with. I am by no means convinced mine was a good process, so interested in other versions.

Very nice! This is supposed to be an LHaRGB image however the Ha was not captured. I have resubmitted the Ha part

That will be great. I look forward to the additional data.

I think this is a fantastic image.   I love the subtle background = must have a go at this one myself!

Catching up a bit, I have had a chance to process Job 1141 - Heart and Soul in narrowband.

With a bit more experience I thought I would go back and reprocess the Elephant's Trunk data from the start. Original here. Here are two new versions at slightly different brightness and contrast.

Hi Richard,

Was experiencing exactly the same thing, so thank you for posting that. So much better than the sort of yellowish images I was seeing trying the usual SHO and blends. Really encouraging result and a vast improvement on what I was getting.

Here is my first shot at NGC1499 - the California Nebula.

There was no O3 to speak of, but there was a fair amount of S2, particularly in the centre. So, I processed this HSS instead of HOO.

A few problems - I clipped the sky a bit, and also got it too blue, but OK for a first shot I thought.

Morning Richard,

Well I'm certain that version would go down much better with Steve and other aficionados of 'tame' images. Me, I prefer 'lurid', the more so the better. :) Bring them on I say. The only very slight thing about 'my preferred' version, is that the nebula is too plain, needs spicing up to fit in more with the rest, seriously, however please don't spend any time pandering to my whims. :)

Cheers,

On reflection, I think I went over the top in contrast, saturation and sharpening. After several hours processing, it looked good on my screen in Pixinsight, but once converted to JPG and seen on another screen it looked a bit lurid.

I think this is a better version.

Richard,

Stunning and very surreal. A beautiful pair of pictures and very pleasing on the eyes.

In the Sadr four-panel, I found the bottom right panel intriguing with the Crescent Nebula enveloped in what looks like Hokusai's Great Wave. SO I processed a crop of that area separately. Straight SHO as for the original mosaic.

And here is a zoom in to the key area.

Hi Richard,

Nice variation of colours starting to appear. I'm right now working on something suffering with much of the colour domination you describe. Gonna steal and try out your technique on mine. :)

Eagerly awaiting your other combos, and now I'm tempted to revisit this one myself as a separate image.

Thanks for sharing the image and information.

AFter giving up on processing the whole three-pane mosaic of the Clamshell to Pelican (because the CLamshell is so much weaker and unbalances the image, I did a North America and Pelican and planned a separate Clamshell image.

I have now managed to process it and got what I think is a nice result.

SHO palette was totally dominated by Ha and solid acid green. There is little O3 variation so HOO was nothing much. HSS and HOS are rather more interesting and waiting more time to process further.

However, what I have found a good starting point is a 50:50 mix of SHO and HOO. That shifted the greens to warmer yellows and orange.

So here it is. I will post a higher resolution version to the gallery.
