Hi all

We are not sure exactly on dates yet but towards the end of the month we have a trip planned to complete any outstanding maintenance as well as add some new equipment.

We have been sorting the pier queue in the mean time to complete as many jobs as possible if you have not noticed how many completed jobs there have been in the last week or so :0

However if you can check the data as quick as you can so you could re-inupt any replacement frames you can ASAP please as we have to take into account whatever happens with any of the options we are discussing. Things with this pier are going to change  when we do arrive to do the maintenance. So we need to get the existing jobs wherever possible completed but I hasten to add keep extra work coming in so the pier is not sitting idle!

To that end at present the pier is going a little quite middle of the night until dawn so it may be work putting some late risers in laughing

HTH

Steve,

Many thanks for this timely and important update.

From looking at the latest queue tremendous progress has been achieved to ensure as many jobs get completed asap, giving us enough time to check our data. As you say they (I have no jobs in the queue) :), need to resubmit without delay.

The only thing I would add is that one job in particular Sh2-240 the Spaghetti nebula, really needs the current setup to accommodate it. This object is available to image up to around 2 am according to Telescopius, so it might be better for the time being if any new jobs, not resubmissions, are rising and do not reach an elevation of 25° until after 2 am, just a suggestion. That would give it a better chance of collecting as much data as possible. Of the 25 hours required, so far 4% has been captured.

Cheers,

Ray

No worries, I had noticed myself that most jobs in the queue finish between 12-2am* so as I said late risers would be best as this will allow me to keep one eye on the existing jobs to ensure I can get as much as possible finished

Not massive projects of course, just general nice objects that don't require massive amounts of integration time

Good morning everyone

As of this morning Pier-14 has a total of 9 jobs left to complete

This is made up of:

  • 2x large jobs which are barely started - 1259 & 1382 that set around 2am
  • 1x job that starts to rise just before dawn  that has not been started yet - 1358
  • 2x jobs that are setting at 3.30am that have not been started yet - 1397 1398
  • 4 jobs that are in various percentages of completeness that are again all setting early - 1372 66%, 1374 50%, 1376 66%, 1395 25%

We are on first quarter this evening give or take so if it remains clear we should get through a good proportion of these before the moon becomes a real pain, if they are suitably positioned for moon avoidance that is!

However, as stated yesterday you do have some pier imaging gaps and inactivity forming now.....

Hi,

Some suggestions which I hope others will check to ensure these are viable targets during the next couple of weeks. After that the moon ought no longer to be of concern. Just wish the same could be said of the sky conditions during that time. :(

A couple of broadband which might be good around the nights not quite so close to the full moon.

M44 cluster, but this does set before astronomical dark ends, so could fill a small gap. I haven't checked if this has already been done.

Ic4665 cluster, new to me, but may fulfil our needs.

Abell 2197 galaxy cluster, not sure if it is bright enough.

For narrowband which may enable us to do some capture the few nights either side of the full moon, but would require going down to 20° elevation.

The many times captured ic1396, efelant trunk (sic).

A new one for me, sh2-115.

Initially go for ha and O3 only with the ha being best closer to full moon, and o3 when the moon is past the third quarter.

Please comment on this and also add some suggestions.

Cheers,

Markarians, leo trio, virgo cluster, coma cluster, hercules cluster are a few quickies you can get detail on :)

Hi everyone,

I like the idea of M44, and of course the Makarians. The latter could be taken in two ways:

a. Centre on RA: 12hr 23' 59" / Dec: 14º 14' 51". This would allow to include M85 and M98, but would miss M87.

b. Centre on RA: 12hr 34' 13" / Dec: 12º 51' 43". This would allow to include M60, M87 and the photogenic NGC 4567/4568 etc., but would of course miss M85 and M98.

If the Makarians are of broader interest, then what would you prefer?

Cheers

Cool, what ever you all decide please get them in ASAP so Pete can add them to the pier otherwise another good night with a small moon is a wasted :)

If it gets to late then Pete will run out of time this evening and he will put them in tomorrow :(

Manuel,

Have submitted one of the Markarian's Chain suggestions for now. Will probably wait for that to complete before submitting the other one. Thanks for the coordinates as well.

Cheers
