Hi All

I would love to get the spghetti nebula this season.

Have you guys done it already on this pier. if not,  It will just fit into a 2x2 mosaic with 10% overlap.

Are you ok with me putting this onto the queue for a period between Nov and Jan?

Thanks

Paul

Hi Paul and welcome,

This could well turn out to be the best time to have joined this syndicate, but I ought to emphasise the word 'could'. As a long suffering member, and being the first and now into the 3rd year, I have everything crossed that on the guvnors next visit he may finally sort everything out and finally flatten that sensor. I believe that he's taking a sledge hammer in place of the club hammer he used last time.

If you've looked at any of the data available to you then you will noticed the star shapes in the corners. I mention this particularly in relation to this topic and the proposed mosaic. With pretty well perfect stars you might just get away with a 10 percent overlap, but I've seen a recommendation to go for at least 15 percent at the declination of the Spaghetti nebula.

As soon as the visit is completed and we have evaluated the stars and determined the camera angle, then might be the time to resubmit this suggestion. I'd have no objections to it having had reasonable results when the scope had a full frame sensor and could be captured in one go. It is a great target and that mosaic would give it some breathing space within the frame.

Great to see that you've put a couple of jobs in already, that will most definitely please the guvnor, who is forever on at us to keep the pier occupied.

Most of this is tongue in cheek, I hope you understand.

Again, welcome to the Syndicate.

Cheers,

Ray

Thanks for this Ray

I will look at the the overlap. - thanks for the advice - as you guys have the experience with the scope it is very useful to hear your views

We have a little time before I submit this one as it hasn't risen yet so we can look at what happens out in Spain.....

I'm just sad that I joined too late to get the Ha on the flying bat.  My attempts at home were promising but I only got 2 hours of Oiii before 3 months a permacloud ensued over the Midlands.  Hence joining pier 1 and 14 Syndicates

Cheers

Yeeeeeeees Ray, we are on the flattening I promise undecided

Pete has his new super duper flattener for the piers. its a shame ZWO cannot flatten a sensor themselves in the first place but it is what it is and our new device will sort it!

Ps The maintenance trip is booked for 15th October and we will be 10 days doing all sorts of this while we are there

In fact, I will be putting a post up about that this week

Hi Paul,

welcome to the syndicate and yes, I am all for spaghettis (Simeis 147), and completely support your idea of a 2x2. I have checked the mosaic options, and honestly, Pier 14 with its FoV can easily accommodate a 20% overlap.

I would however suggest that enough Ha and O3 data be collected for an excellent SNR. You can also add a bit of RGB for the stars.

Cheers

Yes - Go for it!

It is an intriguing target that I would love to get some good data on.

As Manuel has said, get plenty of Ha and O3.

And welcome to the syndicate.

Hi Paul,

We've probably all done this and submitted something prematurely before having entered everything and we'd like it removed. It looks like one for the Spaghetti could be. If you look at the submission list in the Nexus tab, you should see against all your submissions an option to have it deleted. I'm sure that even if you didn't Peter would not submit it anyway. Just wanted to make you aware of that invaluable option in case you weren't.

You may need to have them all removed anyway unless by some miracle Steve manages to match the camera angle to what you assumed. I say this, and someone else on this pier can confirm it, but we once had an early attempt at a mosaic sabotaged when Steve returned after leaving the camera about 12 degrees off of vertical. A hasty resubmission of 3 of the  panes once this was noticed. I can only imagine that the night before the local hostelry may have been having a "special. Steve as you may well know is not one not to take advantage of something like that. :)

Cheers,

Its no problem for us to remove jobs, the only thing we ask is if you make a mistake please try to remove the job asap because its a lot of work for us to input a job, remove said job then re input the new job. so getting in early to remove it before Pete has inputted it in the first place would be most appreciated by him I assure you :)
