Would love some help, thanks in advance.

I am a total rookie, this is only my second imaging project, and my first RGB image.  Do please forgive me!

Rosette Nebula, 5 hours on each channel (I ordered 2.5 hrs but there was a problem with one channel so the lovely peeps at Robo gave me a complete new set).

I am delighted with the the fine detail in the Nebula.  But the stars...so so many...I assume it's a function of the exposure time - the more I image to get the fine details of the nebula, the more faint stars I get.

Have applied MorphologicalTransformation twice in PI to reduce, but still left with the attached image.

Any advice really welcome.  Sorry if these are basic Qs!

With thanks,

John

Hi John,

could you please explain the workflow you applied to the image in more detail?

Did you check all of your fits files in advance and kicked out the bad ones?

Hi!

I used PI for processing.  I Blinked all the images and discarded the bad ones, then used SubFrameSelector to weight all the rest.

Hope that answers your question.

Many thanks indeed.

Hello John, a

Since you are a pixinsight user is Starnet2, the latest version, available to you? I don't know if it now comes pre installed, however, there are a few YouTube videos that go through the installation process.

If you do then I might be able to suggest a work around that doesn't require culling any of the data but uses what you have right now. If you would like to know more then this really needs to be done via messaging and at a mutually convenient time. Some of the steps involved may not yet be familiar to you and therefore not something that could be done via a series of posts on the forum.

If you are okay with that please let me know and I'll attempt to send an initial message to you via the forum. You should receive an email notification sent by roboscopes whenever a new message is sent to you.

Cheers,

Ray

Ray,

Many thanks indeed for your advice.  I did look at Starnet and used it natively in PI to see how it might work.  It removed all the stars (very effectively) which was not quite what I was after.  Of course, I expect I am not using it right.

Would love any advice you may have.  Would be great to catch up when you have time.

Many thanks indeed, and best wishes,

John
