Hi Steve,

Although this applies to all the earlier competitions, the data you're giving us this time is 'out of this world', groan. The free data alone could be (* see below) worth far, far more than the generous prizes. So whoever downloads and processes it will be a winner regardless of their efforts and whether they post it or not.

Also looking forward to seeing images from the Roboscopes staff posted on the forum and hopefully we'll see another iotd on Astrobin.

* Unless of course we get hours and hours of intimate closeups of clouds. :)

Cheers and thanks,

Ray

A new monthly competition, Roof Status = Safe/Open, life is good! :)

As a P1 member I had access to this dataset a while back and had already done the manual labour (downloading, stacking etc), so I get to be early to the party here.

I used Pete's "IOTD Edition" as a reference and a push to squeeze more details out of this juicy data, but that became a bit humbling after a while lol, so in the end I just did the best a could with the tricks I have learned so far.

As Ray mention in an earlier post: the prize is really exciting, but this dataset, free for everyone, is probably even better!  I'm really glad that everyone gets to join in the fun of working on this one, and I look forward to seeing what you all come up with.

Good luck, CS, peace out :)

Hi Annunaki,

That's an excellent rendition. Comparing 'The Big Apple' IOTD version by Pete in Astrobin the major differences I see are only in the colour palette used and that your one has many more stars.

I'd be very happy if I can get anywhere close to what you've produced. Having downloaded and calibrated the calibration files, it's now just a case of waiting for WBPP to work its magic before I can see what I have to work on. Great data btw Steve.

Cheers,

Ray

Yeah, it is even if I say so myself it's a superb dataset and a treasure for anyone who downloads it. even without winning the competition :)

Pier-9 once its finished taking data for Pier-1 members is being removed from the Roboscopes public eye and going back to what it was always meant to be, My personal scope.

I am going to be opening it up to a select few people to help cover the costs as a private syndicate of 5/7 members where if they are interested we are going to do more unusual things plus searching for new PN's etc. I may even add an Askar 200mm to the top if there is room to help with new potential object acquisition. So research & focusing on quality different objects rather than quantity, which is where my personal tastes lay if I am honest :) :)

Not that I have ever made a secret of that, me being the vocal sort I am LOL

In the meantime enjoy my Pier-9 as she is a mega awesome setup.....

Sounds like my sort of competition

I have to say that's a none to shabby rendition of M27 you have done, well done :0

Pete as you say is a hard act to follow and like most good processors, its a joy if any of the rest of us mere mortals get close to what they achieve

Btw, don't forget to put your finished version on the competition page!
