Hi everyone!

My name is Vincent and I've been doing the astrohobby since 2015. Loving every bit of it and made my own remote controlled telescope for the garden in that same year. Since I did all that in the Netherlands and after 2015 the weather became increasingly bad, the choice to look at remote observatories was easy. Though not the same hands-on experience as my own rig, I can still use that and add that data to data from here for example. I hope the sessions proof to be great and thanks for the service.

Hello Vincent. It is great to have you on-board and I really do hope that this will be a very special astronomical resource for you. I am not able to make my own setup like you have done, but I do take images from my back garden, hoping to beat the weather and conditions! Take care and all the best to you. Simon. UK

Hi Vincent and welcome aboard.

That makes three Dutch members now LOL :)

Please ignore my dylexia wherever possible, just be thankful I can control my Tourettes ;)

Things to do, so little time!

Thanks everyone!

I've lived in Scotland for some months before "the thing" happened. Tried to relocate but my wife, as a GP, still worked in the Netherlands so we had to abort and come back.
So yes, Dutch, but likely to be abroad in the future. ;) I love how astronomy is so much bigger in the UK.

That maybe because the Netherlands is one of the few places in Europe where you have more rain than us!

You dont have all that standing water because of your arrid climate :)

I think Mike Van Den Berg will be happy to have you on board LOL

Welcome Vincent,

Good idea to combine data with your own when the occasion arises, and I hope that you will be able to have great success doing that. So you have your own remote obs. I did from around 2013, but now it is an obs obs. The first 'obs' being an abbreviation for obsolete. :)  Occasionally still use it, not remotely from the house, but only with a camera and lenses mounted.

I think the weather in northern Europe took a bit of a turn for the worse just after completing my obs. Received some flack from friends and family blaming me for the change around that time. So was it you then in 2015 I can blame for the even more dire conditions. :) :) :)  I do hope you Dutch have a good sense of humour, we English need to particularly when it comes to football. :)

Looking forward to hearing more from you in due course and hope you are pleased with the data you received. In the meantime, clear skies....

Regards

Yeah, my obs is in storage now at the moment as I've been living in various places the last 2 years with my family. New Zealand was stop 1 (omg that was awesome regarding the skies), then Scotland and now back again in the Netherlands. After all this we'll probably go to NZ again, I think... maybe.

But yeah 2015 was pretty ok still, the next winter period we had clouds for literally 3 months, not a single day without. That was crazy and it hasn't been much better after that. It was the point I decided to take up a second hobby just in case and my interest in real remotes became a thing. So go ahead and blame me, sounds like you need a break from all your friends and family in that regard, it's all my fault from now on. ;)

And no worries, I can take a lot of jokes, it's NZ and Scotland where I learned to be less "direct" as there it was more often seen as rude. haha

Cheers, Vincent
