In order to understand the best pier to use to image an object, I have been doing some research before laying down the cash.   The attached is a comparison of the expected output from the 12 piers using M31 as the target.  I used the FOV tool at Astronomy Tools .  This gives me a reasonable start as to which pier to use for a large object such as M31.  An object such as M57 would point me to a different pier.  I accept no responsibility for the  results and advise you to carry out your own calculations.

I hope this is useful.

Actualy thats a really good idea. I will try and do a sticky in the forum over the next couple of weeks that would have a common object or two in for each pier

Thank you

Dave,
That's much easier to use than trying to compare a list of the field of views for each pier. Thanks for sharing this. :)

Cheers,

Ray

Afternoon guys,

Really useful this is going to be, as they say, a picture paints a lot of words.

A very very minor observation, they'd have looked prettier in glorious colour. No swearing now! :)

Hopefully some of the useful information past and future being posted on the forum will be included in a separate section which cannot be replied to.

Thanks for the time and effort gentlemen.

@£%&$@&?@<{)  Is all I can say to that Ray :)

I use CCD navigator to pic objects to image and plan the month ahead, as it's an acurate representation of FOV and I have all 14 piers pre programmed in It seemed like the obvious if monochromatic choice to me :)

As you say when I add camera rotational figures I will make it a sticky on the forum for sure as it helps us all including me

If I ever get 5 minutes I will also add some graphics from the Skyx showing the imaging box in relation to a larger field with the correct rotation as well :)
