Hi everyone
We have chosen Pier-5 with for this dataset as we wanted to get some of the nice colour stars in the field plus a significant portion of IFN around the galaxies, plus it was a perfect opportunity to test out the new Askar HA/OIII filter on M82
3Hrs of OSC data
2Hrs Data using the new Askar HA/OIII colour magic filter
The data will be available on the server HERE for all members to download later this evening and the competition winner will be chosen the 1st week of May
Competition rules are simple and as follows:
Roboscopes will supply the un-calibrated image subs, calibration frames including darks, Bias & Flats where appropriate for you to download from our “Nexus” image portal, one of the Roboscopes team* will choose the winners at the the beginning of each month, hopefully some of you may also be interested in becoming judges :)
The winner will receive 5 free hours data on the chosen pier for that months competition, worth upto €250. We have 7 piers to choose from so each month we will choose one at random, including our big 17" Planewave.
The runner up will receive a €30 Imaging voucher to spend with us.
If you are new to Roboscopes then you will need to join our site, please go to our memberships page HERE in order to join as a free member, this will then allow you access to the downloads and calibration folders area.
Please feel free to like or discuss any image that posted. The maximum image size you can upload to the forum is 20mp, they simply copy and paste inline BTW
*PS if any of you are interested in becoming a judge please contact Peter Shah via DM

Here is my rendition of the Data Set, I thought I'd post it anyway even though I'm not able to enter. I just wanted to see what the Data Set was like. I did vet and remove a few frames but used most of them. This is the first time me using Dual Band filters...Im quite impressed ...cant wait to try them on an emission nebula.
Thanks for looking
So here´s my interpretation of the M81 M82 competition dataset.
It contains both datasets, RGB and Dual Band Filter, and I tried not to generate an overprocessed image, at the same time still trying to visualize fine structures in a somewhat "natural" look. Which was quite a challenge in processing :-)
I used PixInsight and a little postprocessing in Affinity Photo.
Enjoy and good luck everyone - looking forward for the next challenge.
CS, Martin
Hi everyone,
glad you provided data so i can improve my skills for free. It was very challenging to handle the dust/noise ratio.
I've used Siril for processing and Gimp playing with the layers and colors.
Thanks to all the other guys for the impressions which gave me a stunning wow, what else is hidden in the data.
Michael
Maybe something more challenging for the May competition. :)
In the meantime the suspense is killing me waiting for the announcement of the winner and runner-up for April.
Good luck judges. Personally I think you should just announce a winner and as a one-off make everyone else a runner-up. :)
Cheers,
Ray (Just a spectator)
To give you an idea the attached screenshot of a capture by and copyright of Andreas Aufschneiter, is in my opinion, almost as good as my attempt. You'll probably now understand why I didn't enter so's to give everyone else a chance. :)
I wish we were allowed to edit our posts
With reference to the previous post of mine and the attachment. The screenshot was taken from an image posted on Astrophotography Picture Of the Day, (APOD).

Thank you all for taking part in our first Roboscopes competition. The overall standard of processing was high which made judging very difficult.
After much discussion the Roboscopes team have came to the following decision.
First place winner is Anunnaki with a very sympathetic process and a very close second was Martin94b who managed to go very deep on the IFN.
Anunnaki will receive 5hrs of free data for Pier 6, please DM me and I will input your job into the system. Martin94b you will receive a €30 voucher in the next few days.
Congratulations to the winners and thank you once again to everyone who took part. Look out for our next competition in the following weeks.

Congratulation to Anunnaki for the truly excellent work and the well earned 1st prize!
And thanks to Roboscopes for choosing my image on 2nd place (even though I observed a green artefakt from Affinity Photo when finally exporting the image to jpg).
Ready to hit the next challenge :-)

Wow, this is so exciting! I'm really honoured that you guys liked my take on this one, although to be honest if I had to do it over I would probably be trying to bring out some of the data's aspects more in the style of Peter and Martin... I had the strange thought that if you pixel averaged all the entries together you may end up with the perfect rendition :)
The prize is fantastic and most welcome of course, but the original dataset was already quite the free gift... I am confident that over time people are going to find out about the top quality data available for free over here and this competition will get even more popular - there really is nothing else like it around at the moment...
Thanks again guys and gals, I'm off to Telescopius to pick my target!
CS, Mike :)
