Hi All,

I would like to resubmit a 100 x 300sec integration on the Helping Hand nebula.  This might seem greedy or excessive (it has already had over 300 x 180sec, but most of these were badly affected by dew.

A large number of other images I have looked at are similarly affected.  Although oringally submitted by others, I would support do-overs on the Flaming Star Nebula and the IC1333 mosaic (all of it).

Hi Brian,
I haven't processed the data from Helping Hand Nebula yet. So I can't say how bad the halos are in this image. I don't mind if you want to collect more data from these nebulae. The halos in the other images don't bother me . I would rather use the time to capture more objects. At this point I would also be interested in the opinion of other members. If she also wants to have new data, I have nothing against it.

hi Darius,
Thanks I can understand the desire to get onto new targets, and the others may be more forgiving of the halos than I am. Unfrtauntely, since joining most of my targets have been affected in this way.
If I were to restrict myself to the very worst (affected) of the very best best (targets), I would probably choose: Helping Hand, NGC1333 (Top Left panel of 2x2 mosaic) and the Flaming Star.  The last two weren't proposed by me.  But they are great targets nonetheless.  I would probably go for 60-90 x 300secs on each.  But the weather would need to improve first.

Hi Brian,
I just see that the list for Pier 5 is getting shorter and shorter and hardly anyone is making new suggestions.
That's why it's okay for me if you request the replacement data.

Hi Darius,

I will re-submit those targets.  Perhaps the reason for the lack of submissions, is that people are uncertain (I know I am ) about the state of the telescope and/or weather.  Does it have dew heaters?  If not, when are the dew heaters likely to arrive? Have the optics been stuffed up by the dew, and will they need cleaned? If so, when will that happen?

We all know that dew happens, And it this was a historically bad year, then it is entirely understandable that the 'scopes didn't have the protection needed.  S**t happens.  It is how you respond to that, and keeping folks in the loop is important.  You have to bring your customers along with you on the journey.

Hi Brian

Yes the scope has dew heaters and they have been turned up above normal winter levels that we have previously used year on year, this was done as soon as it was discovered what what the issue was.

Dew control on reflectors is not an easy thing to sort remotely when conditions change, if you don't apply enough heat in adverse conditions, you still get dew. To much heat however is worse as it can introduce tube currents and pinching. We have adjusted in iterations a small amount at a time.

The weather on the other hand is well out of our hands, having said that when we have had small amounts of clear skies in the last week the dew has been roughly 10% lower than the previous weeks  which from our spot checks has made a big difference

We did say we were on the case and dealing with it. but the current weather patterns are not allowing us to give much worthwhile feedback Brian. Cloud and rain bands do not allow for much deep testing of changes!

Fingers crossed that the current forecast is bob on, as it shows some improvement in a few days time.

Just requested that my resubmission for the Flaming Star is removed.  No data has been taken yet, and there are other targets submitted (by others) that I would like to see completed as a priority.

Thanks
Brian
