From around the middle of April I think ngc7822 and nearby ced214 in Cepheus rise sufficiently to allow capturing of data. These will fit within a single frame and hopefully make a fine narrowband image. I will in due course make such a submission but wonder if anyone would also like a capture them in RGB. If so please give me an idea of exposure times and numbers of exposures for each of the broadband 3 filters.

Cheers
Ray

A couple of queries after looking at the current job list.

Could the submission for Tadpole 11/11 be halted and all data collected downloaded please.

I got rather excited yesterday evening, and that doesn't happen to me very often these days, but the camera by the obs showed stars!!! That was even before the appearance of the moon as well. :) Upon viewing the job list just now I realise that my hopes were raised in vain. :(
Now please remind me of the words to that song. "We're off to sunny Spain...."

Apologies everyone, I was in the usual end-of-year rush panic with clients.

I agree we can get rid of job 347.

Job 985 is weird, because it has already been completed, downloaded and (badly) processed. You can see it in the download area, so I am not sure why it is there again. We don't need it. Jobs 999 and 1000 are adding extra O3 and S2 for this target as it swings round above the imaging horizon again.

Meanwhile back to processing what we have.

Ray, we haven't set up a way we can share the semi-processed data. Once I have calibrated and stacked the raw data, there doesn't seem any point in you reprocessing from scratch. And it saves time and space on your machine. Let me know if you want to share via dropbox or similar.

Steve and Pete - good luck with the trip to Spain!

Hi

Job 347 & 985 now removed as requested

FYI

I have been monitoring what's being imaged on P14 at present and we have some gaps

At present I am tweaking the start of the night to finish some of the setting projects in order to get them finished and our software is automatically imaging the summer objects that are rising around 3am ish UK time but for the past few nights I have observed an unproductive imaging hole  from 11.30pm to 3.00am ish UK time where the pier sleeps and says nothing to do. Whilst I know we are in a transition period between winter and summer objects as in general galaxy season is not as good for wide-field but may I suggest some out the box ideas to fill the gap

1, Perhaps clicking moon down and Polaris would be a fantastic and very interesting object due to the masses of IFN round that area. Also its not an overdone subject
300s Subs as guess

2, pick another object that goes over 25º by midnight on the east side of the meridian

I am easy on whatever you want or do not want to do but seeing it sitting still for 3 hours each night doing nothing under clear skies is killing me LOL :)

Yes, that would be possible. As you say,  the IFN around Polaris is less often imaged, but it is a hard target. This image took nearly 16 hours with a fast RASA https://www.tristancampbell.co.uk/astrophotography/integrated-flux-nebula-ifn. I will submit a job to give it a go.

I can't see anything else rising high enough by then. The Elephant's truck is still a bit low.

I may also need some extra LRGB data on Leo galaxies. I had to dump quite a few subs for cloud, and I don't know what the noise will be like yet. Processing now.

Cool

I hope the darker skies in Spain should make a huge difference to acquisition times

I presume he was using a CCD or DSLR at 16 hours of imaging time but who knows :)

PS when I said pick an object at 25º at midnight that's 11pm UK time

Hi Gents,

Just catching up with all these new posts today and have maybe found an alternative target to keep Mr A from lying awake these nights worrying. It is listed in Telescopius as a potential target, but looks like it too would require a lot of imaging time. This is just a thought, as what has already been submitted looks really great. Also I didn't want it to appear that I'm not taking an interest in what is going on.

The target is Sh 2-73 a reflection cloud in Hercules, and I hope I'm not infringing anything posting the attached screenshot. I can always remove it.

Cheers,

Ray

Looks a nice object to me to be fair Ray, if it rises at the right time then go for it :)

Again 300s subs I would say

Try

L x 36
R x 12
G x 12
B x 12

Yes I know my percentages are not in but its mainly for star colour and you can adjust them if you wish, I think you will be surprised at what can be achieved with this, moon down obviously

I hope you are both keeping well. I have just had my second Covid injection in preparation for Spain :)

Still got a month to go to my second jab.

Do you have a contact email for Pete Shah? I emailed him via his website re: image processing training, but haven't heard anything. I am not sure if he monitors that email regularly. It may be that he is no longer doing imaging classes.

Hi Steve,

I'll wait until the existing one has completed, just in case that requires a bit more exposure time.

Hope you both have an uneventful journey and manage to get everything done that you wanted to do. Please though just one thing. Do not go anywhere near pier 6 until the outstanding data for my order 305 has been successfully captured. After that you can do what you like with it. Rotate the camera, change the camera, change the scope, whatever, just as long as I get my data beforehand. :)

Looks like there will be a great deal to look forward to post visit, especially the scope with the OSC and of course the Planewave. Don't forget the sun lotion and wear a hat, nag, nag, nag, keep hydrated and only drink bottled water.

Safe journey,

Ray

I will have to check to see what the issue is with my email. I've not had any for a few days. To answer your question I do offer processing tutorials. Please try this email address petershah656@gmail.com I know this one is working.

I am busy getting 305 sorted behind the scenes Ray, its part of my getting setting objects done routine. Its at 88.9% complete at present, next clear night fingers crossed its finished :)

Lots to do, looking forward to Spain and we promise to be careful :0

Hi Peter,

I'm interested too. :)

Life's too short in my case, stumbling around hoping to chance upon a solution using trial and error.

Hi,

With not a lot of imaging taking place at the moment this isn't a problem, but for the last 2 days the job queue isn't displaying a percentage in the 'Amount completed' column for some reason. Well not for me anyway.

Cheers,
