Hi to everyone on Roboscopes,

I have just joined Syndicate 5 and looking forward to some amazing wide field images of the Northern Hemisphere!

My name in Brian, and I am a retired professional astronomer.  However, I only started in this wonderful hobby of astrophotography 18months ago.  I have my own little roll-off roof observatory in near Queenstown, New Zealand with a Skywatcher Esprit APO refractor 100 and GSO RC8 telescopes.  My main AP interests wide-field nebulae (bright and dark - particularly IFNs) and larger galaxies. I post all my images on Astrobin (https://www.astrobin.com/users/profbriannz/).

Privileged to, and frustrated by, living at -45, since less than 1 million people on the planet live further south than me, but so much of the Northern Hemisphere is out of bounds.  So I guess this is the place and the rig for me.

Still a little baffled by how I go about discussing objects to be observed (and what's in the queue) for my syndicate, but I am sure I will find out.

What jobs have been submitted and by whom is here:
https://www.roboscopes.com/index.php/memberships/view-submissions

Inputting a new job is done here:

HI Steve,

Really helpful. Thank you so much.  I have now submitted my first request to Syndicate 5.  I wasn't sure whether I should provide a case or not, but I included some comments.  Note that the last time I applied for telescope time was on an 8m-telescope with peer review - so I expect feedback!

Not sure how to access your dashboard, but will have fun trying.

Brian

it's here:

https://roboscopes.com/index.php/memberships/my-dashboard

I see you have visited the Pier-5 forum section also which is great, we really see syndicates as a team effort as part of an imaging club . So be as active as you want on the forum with suggestions etc :)

Pier-5 is a new syndicate so only has a few members at present

HI Steve,

It was through Astrobin.  I saw one of Peter Shah's images from Roboscopes, and went to the website.  It didn't take me long to decide of membership.

Now I am in, navigating is a little hard. I submitted to the Pier 5 queue, using the link you sent me.  But I am not sure where best to have the discussion about targets to observe with fellow team members.  I tried to submit something to the Pier 5 forum but no response so far...  Of course, its only been a few hours.

Hi Brian,

Syndicate datasets you will need to install an FTP client (We recommend FileZilla) and use that to connect to the server using the Syndicate FTP details shown in your Dashboard.
You don't need to configure anything int he software.

There are currently 9 Datasets available to Pier 5 Subscribers and datasets automatically get swept off the server as they reach 28 Days old.

To create a submission to the Pier you use the STORE area in the top menu and select the pier from the "Book Time Syndicate" sub-menu.

I will start zipping future datasets into Zip format so that Mac users can open them natively as I did not forsee the issues Mac users have with 7z files.

I don't have time during the day today to rezip the calibration files up, but will endeavour to do so in the next day or so.

Its like any new software/website, you have a learning curve as to how the menu system works but in essence your main user sections are here

Hi Steve and Phil.

After fixing some permissions on my Mac (its good to be back using Unix shell script again - after a 25year break) I am now able to use FileZilla to find the download area and I think 7zip also works.  SO no need to do anything more.  Like Steve says its a learning curve.  Or in my case a re-learming curve.  Neurons firing that haven't done so for too long.

Thanks for your support and patience with me

Hi Brian, FileZilla does have a GUI if you prefer to use that :)

Kind regards, Phil.
