Hi guys,

Nicolas here, 32 yo. I have a manies hobbies such drawing aircraft profiles and astronomy of course :)

I acquired my first telescope in 2013, a Celestron 9.25 EDGE HD with a Losmandy G11 gemini 1.4 mainly for visual under my polluted skies. By the years I bought a lot of eyepieces (with my favorite on, a Nikon NAV HW 17).

After moving to a big city in 2018, I’ve sold everything (except the eyepieces) and really jump in 2020 into astrophotography. I’ve used only remotes telescopes and/or data subscription from companies or individuals (some of the pictures I processed are available on my website).

And now I’m joining Piers 5 & 14 :)

I’ve also seen aa amazing big mosaic projet on Pier 5 but unfortunately I’ll not have all the panels as I’m joining late :(

Happy to speak with you.

Best regards,

Nicolas

Hi Nicolas

A warm welcome to you from a fellow subscriber to those piers. With the experience you've mentioned I'm sure you will get on fine, however, any questions then please feel free to ask on the forum.

It is a shame you have missed out on some earlier data, but subject to some recent rules around submitting large mosaics, you can always consider requesting something similar in the future. Large mosaics do need to be discussed beforehand these days. If it is part of the Orion mosaic you've missed then perhaps you can let us know. On such occasions  where the odd dataset is missed, it may be made available by the team, they are often very accommodating to the occasional request.

There are at least a couple of pier 5 members, who like doing larger mosaics than what we can submit without needing feedback from other members, that is, anything over 3 panels (panes). So perhaps you have something in mind you can share.

Cheers

Thanks you very much Rey. I really like large mosaic. For exemple i've processed with friends a 12 panels of Orion clouds using an E-180 : https://nicolasillustrations.com/project/orion-clouds-mosaic

Hi Nicolas,

Just visited your website. Fantastic opening image of The Silver Coin galaxy, often referred to as the Sculptor galaxy on here. So far I've just looked at the nebulae all of which are excellent. Still hoping that one day I'll be able to produce something as good as any of those.

That mosaic you mentioned is as you say extremely detailed when you go to the hi-res version. Will you eventually put a link to it on your website, as I could not find any way to view it from there.

Talking of large mosaics I've had the large region around the Rosette nebula ngc2244 in mind for a while now, just been waiting for it to rise. There is a vast region of nebulosity, including the Cone nebula /Christmas Tree cluster ngc2264 and beyond, which could be a great target for pier 14.

Looking forward to working with you on some projects in the future.

Cheers,

Ray

Thank you very much Rey. Really appreciated.

Not sure I understood well: "Will you eventually put a link to it on your website, as I could not find any way to view it from there. ". Here's the link to the full mosaic on easy zoom: https://www.easyzoom.com/imageaccess/b06e735576454315afb258d895046f13

Hi Nicolas,

I probably didn't explain myself very well.

On your website there are links to Clusters, Galaxies and Nebulae, but I could not see any way to view the mosaic. Obviously I could do so by using the link you put in the message. It's no problem but I wondered how anyone else could access it from your website without knowing the link, maybe I'm not navigating your website correctly.

Cheers,

Ray

I got it.

You're right, I've not created a specific category for the mosaic. I'll add it. Thanks for the idea :)
