I'm first, yay! That's unless someone posted something before I finished slowly typing this in. :(

I'm not planning on submitting anything in the near future since I've been able to collect so much over the past couple of years. I'm looking forward to all the data, some of which I can add to what I already have. You can never have enough. :)

I used Telescopius with a very restricted criteria list, so most of these are the popular choices. There's an amazing number of objects, particularly dark nebula, left for you to choose from, plus galaxies.

Using March 1st as the date for current objects, just a few :

Still or just rising:

  The region around Sadr, gamma Cygni.

  M44 Beehive cluster.

  Some more are needed I think, for example Sh2-115.

Close to reaching or passing transit :

  Rosette nebula region 

  Flaming Star and Tadpoles 

  Jellyfish 

  Monkey Head ngc2174/ngc2175

Setting :

  Witch Head

  California 

  Pleiades 

  Horsehead region and M42

Very close to setting, not recommended :

  Heart and Soul region 

Forward planning using April 30th :

  M8

  Veil complex 

  Ngc6820/ngc6823

  Elephant trunk region

  Flying Bat - Sh2-129

  North American, Pelican and Clamshell 

  Lion nebula 

  Bubble, Cave and Lobster Claw

Steve no doubt will encourage you to go way beyond April 30th regarding forward planning, I'm currently feeling 'typed out'. 

If I've anything incorrect then my apologies but I didn't want to spend too long on this rechecking.

Hi Ray,

all good targets from my perspective! Also, we could diversify into clusters and consider M53 together with NGC5053 (image centered on 13 14 43 / +17 55 25), I think this could be a nice one for March as well.

Regarding Elephant trunk region / Lion nebula / Wizard nebula, I have a suggestion for debate:

I am a fan of taking panes that can be assembled into a mosaic. So, I have looked at this and here is a thought:

We could take an initial 3x3 mosaic containing the Elephant trunk region and the Lion nebula. this can then be extended East to include the Wizard nebula, as well as NGCs 1289+1333+1334+---+7281.

We can also, if we have the taste for this, expand North and West (each by 1 pane) and include Sh2-129, and a ton of other NGCs. This can be done this year, or complemented in 2023 (I know this is really forward planning). Of course, the sky is the limit, and we can take panes in the coming years that will eventually link this to the Lobster and bubble + M52 ... (more LoL for Steve here).

This may sound ambitious ... but could lead to an amazing panorama of this part of the sky. I will spend time in the coming days to model this and get a feel for what this would take.

What are your thoughts?

Steve unless you intend to at least double up Pier 14 with twin scopes, then although the squidy will be there, you'll be hard pushed to clearly see it. I'm ready to give an explanation if you want. 

Those mosaics sound really exciting Manuel and as you mentioned they could all be joined together with additional ones to join them up next year. Look forward to hearing from you Manuel with what you eventually come up with.

Yes those filters will really help pulling the O3 data out of theHa. A lot of the images of this on Astrobin use 3nm Chroma or Astrodon filters and have integration times from about 25 hours upwards. The thing you may be overlooking is that, while it can be squeezed into a single frame without too much of a crop, being part of a mosaic will require 2 panels and double the time. Do you have a spare Tak106 and 2600 camera?

Now this where my suggestion to you just before last Christmas would have really helped. I'm banned from suggesting a certain astrophotography technique here on the forum :) , so that was sent as a suggestion to you in an email. Fifteen - Love, to me I believe.

However this has been my point all along with forward planning, a job like that you get it in early early months before it rises, and put moon down only. The pier will then start imaging just before dawn picking up the slack over many months and do a very big project like this without it interfering with its day to day work :)

You've consistently reminded us of what we need to do, so I hoped that the recent thread encouraging members to take heed and ensure no time is wasted may have convinced you that there will be little if any spare time. I also need not remind you that from around the Spring equinox the dawn and sundown come closer and closer together pretty quickly.

I recommend for now that part of the mosaic containing squidy be imaged using the same times as the other panels, and leave until next year the additional integration time. So no squidy for you this year Steve.

If you agree then we'll call it a draw. :)
