I would like to image a galaxy cluster in broadband.

The Coma cluster is too small in the FOV I think. The Virgo cluster is much too big, so we would have to make a selection. Markarian's chain is the obvious thing to focus on, but how to frame and what else to include?
Virgo Cluster 1.png

This view starts (ends?) the chain lower centre and then curves up through the usual view of the chain to NGC 4350 at upper right. I think that might look pretty good.

Virgo Cluster 2.png

This view moves the chain over to centre right but  brings in some of the other larger galaxies in the bottom half on the left.

I think I prefer the first view. What do you think?

Sorry Richard, not sure why I did not see this. A great idea and while I have no preference, what about a 2 panel mosaic. That's if I'm not too late.

Cheers

I have submitted a two pane version like so:

Virgo Cluster.png

Coordinates:

Pane, RA, DEC, Position Angle (East), Pane width (arcmins), Pane height (arcmins), Overlap, Row, Column
Center, 12hr 32' 25", 13º 38' 51", 90.00, 323.40, 215.40, 25%, -, -
Pane 1, 12hr 37' 57", 13º 38' 37", 90.33, 323.40, 215.40, 25%, 1, 1
Pane 2, 12hr 26' 52", 13º 38' 37", 89.67, 323.40, 215.40, 25%, 2, 1

Pane 2 is centred on Markarian's chain and should give a good view. Pane 1 adds in more of the cluster.

TBH you can go all over the sky with such a large cluster, but I thought I would try this.

Using the exposures and sub count recommended by Brian's U235 project. First time I have taken advantage of it.

Richard,

That looks really good. I'm not sure I've seen anywhere such a large number of galaxies in a single image that is at a decent scale. This ought to show quite some detail compared those taken using extremely short focal length lenses.

Great choice for this setup, and maybe the first of a few more. :)

Thanks for the effort you put in,
