The Location
Roboscopes have teamed up with AstroPackers in the US to build multiple observatory complexes in Pie Town, New Mexico. This one pictured being our first. Pie Town is one of the darkest locations in the USA at a true Bortle-1 & 2300mtrs above sea level and has become a mecca for remote imaging with its ability to cater for high-end large aperture long focal length scopes that many locations cannot accommodate, as despite their dark sky status, their seeing & transparency just isn't up to the same standard as here.
There are few places you can put your telescope in the Northern Hemisphere that allow you these types of skies, whilst still maintaining a high quality infrastructure and accessibility due to the nature of the USA
Weather
Pie Town is high & dry and has very stable weather patterns, with a single late summer Monsoon season plus a little snow from time to time indicative of higher ground. However, you will get many clear nights usually in excess of 275 per year.
Joint Venture
Daniel is an avid astronomer who isn't just in it for the business side of things, like us, it's a genuine passion, we have known Daniel for many years both a friend and a customer of Roboscopes. We work well together and have the same goals, and we look forward to building many more observatories together in the future that we can make availabe for other people to enjoy the night sky :)
As we have partnered with Daniel, gremlins or foibles can be easily dealt with as we have local boots on ground to keep you collecting data as much as possible!
-
True Bortle 1 skies
-
Average 275+ clear nights per year
-
Seeing is around 1" on average and at times is sub arcsec in the winter
-
2300 meters above sea level
-
High low humidity climate, situated above most prevailing weather patterns & atmospheric turbulence
-
Late summer Monsoon season July-September, allowing less imaging time during this period
-
Long nights and dark skies even during early/mid summer thanks to our lower latitude
