So we are in Spain next week
As you all know we are doing some work on the filters to this pier, to that end I have just paused any job that has not started as of today. We are going to have to remove the camera etc so it will require new flats and the camera position may not be to the degree the same, so it seemed a prudent course of action.
It may be worth waiting until we get to Spain and then give you the big thumbs up before putting any more jobs into this pier

Ps if you have a quick narrowband object you want to do, I think we have time to do this before we arrive but the moon is at 73% already so we are not loosing much data at the moment in all reality.
An ideal candidate would be the Helix, Some 300s OIII HA would not go amiss if I am honest as the 180s subs are a tad short in my opinion. and a lot more longer subs would make a superb image of an iconic object

Moon is massive so as I said yesterday I will just leave it as the Helix and NGC6888 as both are narrowband until after we have sorted the filters

Steve just called me as he is driving. The reason jobs are not processing at the moment (mine triggered the question) is that there is a bright mon up at the moment so RGB jobs will not work properly. Has anyone found an on/off switch for the moon yet? :-)

I have a few nights of clear skies forecast for next week at my North Wales observatory, and of course, the moon is full and high during astronomical darkness. So it will have to be narrowband on something to the North.
So Pier 1 apart from re focusing the guider is now finished
1, remove reflections to narrowband filters (done)
2, fit new HB filters (done)
3, put camera back as close to previous orientation (done)
4, most import, the collimation is now awesome
We will be taking new flats this week for the pier and as the camera has been removed its worth checking the camera angle with plate solve as it may be a tiny amount different
Any work completed after the 27th August will need to be calibrated using the new flats

i was planning to process the 001109 p1 cocoon 1076 dataset. Shud i wait for new flats and darks or use the ones currently in the download area dating from 10-august and earlier ? Data in this set is from 28-aug onwards ....

I'd recommend waiting. Just tried it and found that using the existing dark frames but without any flats the luminance was pretty much okay, however, the 'dust bunnies' were very evident on the RGB stacks. We definitely need the flats.
Just out of curiosity I'll probably complete processing the luminance tomorrow as it is looking promising after stacking. There is a bit of variation in the imaging area between sets of the luminance frames which has meant a bit more cropping than usual, but a minor thing to watch out for.

New pier 1 setup image of Cocoon nebula. As we are currently awaiting the new flat frames, this is the luminance data calibrated using just a dark frame. Dust bunnies, if any, were not apparent to my poor eyesight so I thought that I'd share it.

PS I put the Veil process and the zoomed subsets in the Gallery. Trying to get used to putting successful images there so that we can share a higher resolution.

It is looking much better on that pier. It's a shame that we may now need to resubmit some of the earlier jobs. Not looking forward to those where data was captured before and after the visit.
I now visit the gallery at least twice a day and noticed all those new ones you've posted. Great job and exactly what is needed to show the versatility of pier 14.
I did mention to Steve a while ago that it would be a nice gallery feature to be able to select by pier and perhaps author.

so there is no Luminance flats uploaded.... did that get overlooked or is it in the pipeline ?

Thanks Vikas for the heads up on those files. I'm currently downloading them and it does show a Luminance flat. Perhaps it just missed being downloaded to your computer at the time. Having said that there appears to be 7 flats, but none for Blue, but one for the HB filter. That's weird. Do you by any chance have a Blue flat?
