Evening all

The scoop on pier 5 is it all went very very well, filter wheel and filters done and the scope has been re-collimated, the camera angle may be a few degrees out but that cannot be helped.

The real big news is the initial tests with the Askar Colour Magic filters produced zero halos in up-to 30s subs so all looks well with them for the future.

Going forward (older jobs in the pier will be left to run as is)

Dual Band filters - Moon 110 & 5 & Priority 0

Standard OSC - Moon 120 & 10 with priority 1

Phil has adjusted the booking portal to include the new filters. So ladies and gentlemen, you are good to go :)

No Worries Ray, if we get done with the other piers early enough this evening we will turn on Pier5 to see how it runs

If somene would like to put in a test job for the new filters then that would also be a massive help :)

Thanks Steve

I did put in a job yesterday but for just one filter, feel free to add to that. :)

Cheers,

Great news! I will review my target list when I get a moment to see what could be nice with the filter.

Hi All,

I have added a 2-panel mosaic of the veil complex using the new HaO3 filter (Jobs 2095 and 2096). Will be interesting to see how they turn out.

I understand the OSC, HaO3 and S2O3 filter options, but what filters does the RGB option use?

P11 uses this one, as its the same thickness as the Narrowband filters fitted in the wheel plus allows colour imaging when the moon is around :)

So is this the preferred choice for general OSC as it reduces moon and sky glow?

I put it to try if I am honest, I have never used one and thought it may extend imaging on the pier in colour when the moon is around. I am interested to have a play and see what it brings to the table :)

I have added job 2098 a widefield view of North America and Pelican using RGB filter - see how it goes.

Hi Richard this filter is fitted to P11 not P5

We are looking at a similar filter for P5 but I could not source one in time for the last trip plus we were testing for reflections

My apologies I misunderstood. So the RGB option on Pier 5 is not currently operative?

No Worries, I removed the job

When we go back in the summer we will be adding an RGB type filter so we can continue imaging much further in the lunar month with OSC

Now the new wheel is fitted we do not have to remove the camera from the telescope and possibly alter the camera angle to add a filter which is good news. we simply take the filter wheel apart, add the filter then screw it all back together :)

I will keep you all informed don't worry
