Hi,
the stars in the corner are not round and show aberrations. Can this be fixed ?
Hi, Apologies if the quote I'm trying to use has not appeared above. I'm hopeless when it comes to making anything other than a straightforward posting. Steve had made that suggestion to go native and eliminate those bad star shapes and asked us, the only 2 members at the time, what we wanted to do. On such wide fields of view we get and particularly so with mosaics, we kind of accepted the stars given the amount of sky we could capture, particularly during our summer season. Once the scope goes to its native focal length we lose those opportunities for the mosaics. An equivalent mosaic, whilst giving higher resolution, would mean more panels and many additional subs due to the reduced light gathering capacity. At a future date we reckon removing that reducer permanently would be a good thing to do, so I hope that this compromise sits well with you Vikas. Hopefully you'll find that when you look at the resulting images you'll be acceptably zoomed out such that the stars do not too bad. At 1:1 they're awful! While I was typing this I noticed that you'd already replied Vikas. I'm glad that you're not upset. Regards, RayHi Steve, Just like keeping you on your toes now and again. My vote is to stay reduced for the time being. There are already several projects for which data has not been fully or even started to be collected and given the erratic skies and the moon waxing, it's very unlikely that they will all be done in time. In addition we are now fully entering the season where the wider fov will be a real asset. The Sadr region being one example. Once we go native then it will need to remain that way, at least until this time next year or permanently. So I reckon it makes sense to leave well alone for this visit and more importantly give you a bit less to do while there and return home sooner.I agree. RichardCheers, Ray
On the contrary, i am happy that my suggestion of not to change has some support.... may it stay this way for many years!! cheers vikasAgreed Vikas. The extraordinary field of view is what makes this pier special. And welcome to the syndicate!
