I just uploaded this image into the gallery. IC 1499 from request 1843 to Pier 14.

I used 25 Ha, 45 O-III and 51 S-II (all 240s) subs.

Very nice Manuel!

This is on my list to process. I had an earlier go, but did not have enough usable O3 to see that lovely blue glow to the side of the main Ha emission.

I hope I can do as well as you have done.

Hi Manuel,

Richard is right, the original data we received last year was so deficient in oxygen that the best image was by just using the Ha and S2 data. A great job there pulling out the blue of the oxygen to produce a tricolour image, so that's very encouraging. I'm hoping that is not totally down to superior processing skills but partly due to the new oxygen filter.

Yet another one to add to an ever growing list. Thanks for sharing this.

Here is my version from the request 1843 data set

 

I was interested to see that the majority of the detail in this was coming from the Sulphur data.  I haven't quite got the detail that Manuel has pulled from the Oxygen - I may revisit!

Further experiments on IC 1499 Processing. 

Manuel correctly pointed out that my stars were red. This is because I had removed the stars from the O3 blue channel as they were causing bloating. Here are two attempts to overcome this using the RGB data.

CaliforniaFinal3 simply combines starfield generated from ChannelCombination of the R, G and B 60 sec subs using PhotometricColorCalibration to get the colours right followed by Starnet2 to separate stars from nebula and ArcSinHStretch to stretch them. A simple linear combination using PixelMath.

CaliforniaFinal4 uses the Russell Croman method to stop the nebula changing the colour of the foreground stars "Unscreening" and re-screening: recombining stars with starless images | PixInsight Forum

I didn't balance the two starfields in intensity before recombining, but you can still see that the colour in the foreground stars is better in Final4.

There are also alignment issues between the RGB filters, but I am not trying to resolve that at the moment.

Very nice. I like the balance across the width of the nebula. Lots of detail coming through. It's a lovely dataset to work with.

Given that we now have the additional data recently requested for this project,  is anybody considering putting in a new request for more oxygen?

I'm just wondering if it is now time for me to process this. Anyone that has already done so should I wait for more oxygen, or, do you think that what there is is sufficient?

I am personally happy with the results Manuel and I produced (https://www.roboscopes.com/index.php/forum/pier-14-california-nebula#reply-5630). We can always go for more, but I think these are pretty good Californias. So, I won't be submitting anything further.

I can't see any further jobs have been submitted.

My only reason for asking was that that recent request was for a lot more oxygen data besides the others, and given the poor data from oxygen subs collected I was just wondering if a further request is planned shortly.

If I'd already processed it, and given the results the data has already produced, I'd probably be reluctant to spend more time on it. I'll wait and give it a little while to see as I have no intention to submit anything myself.

pebster2005 submitted an additional job (1890) which has just come through. It has an additional 2 hours of O3 (which I haven't looked at yet). I have many other targets to do my first process on, so adding this latest data in is at the back of my queue.
