Hi,

As the topic description says more submissions will shortly be required to keep the pier busy, depending on the skies.

I haven't done a search on all the jobs submitted to this pier over the last year, so maybe any of these have already been done. Please let me know.

1) Seagull nebula.

2) Spider and Fly, Tadpoles and Flaming Star nebulae.

3) Region south of the Rosette nebula centered on Sh2-282 and including Sh2-280 (top right) and Sh2-284 (bottom left). Image of area attached.

All of these would benefit greatly with a contribution of Ha, but it is what it is right now.

Please comment and let me know what you think as well as some suggestions of your own.

Thanks,

Ray

Hello Ray,

I like the suggestion of the flaming star nebula. However, we must not forget that we are in the process of making a large mosaic of the Orion region. So far only the first 9 of 40 planned panels have been submitted. Considering that we still have 31 more panels to photograph, time is running out for Orion. Therefore, I would suggest that we submit the other panels.

Regards

Darius

Hello Darius,

Thank you for your reply which is most welcome. I must confess that of the piers I'm subscribed to, this is the one I have been relying on other members to add jobs. I am also aware of the mega mosaic on the Orion region.

I believe Richard did ask if he should submit more of the panes a short while ago, and I am guilty of not responding to the post. I think the idea of doing the entire mosaic may have waned, so maybe just some additional panes for now may be the way to go. It's Richard's project and I'd be happy to go for some more panes, not all though. This still leaves the situation that after last night there is not much left for it to do.

Rather than wait for any other feedback or actions I make no apologies for having gone ahead and made a few submissions. Something the roboscopes team might like to occasionally make us aware of after a night imaging, are the hours where a pier is sitting idle. I've done my best to find out what the situation is on pier 5, and I believe that during at least the first hour of astronomical dark it has nothing to do. I've submitted a job accordingly. For the remainder of the night I've added the 2 pane mosaic of Sh2-282, this will give more time to agree on the next step with the Orion mosaic and future targets.

Again, thank you Darius for your input and jobs you have added to this pier.

Regards,

Ray

I have added an additional 6 panels to the Orion Mosaic (Jobs 1965 - 1970).

This is a row of 3 panels above the current 3x3 mosaic and another 3 below. Filling in more of Barnard's Loop. We now have a 3x5 mosaic.

If these get done whilst Orion is still well placed, we can either continue to extend North and South to gather more of Barnard's Loop, or add a North to South column on the West (panels 9,14,19,24 & 29).

Does anyone have any strong views?

Hi Richard,

I'm definitely for that, so thanks for submitting those jobs. If, as you say, we get a good spell of clear and relatively moon free nights, then extending the mosaic to the west would be my choice.

Cheers,

Ray

About a year ago we did an OSC image of IC 405 and IC 410 (attached).

There is a lot more nebulosity in the area that we did not capture in this image, so I have submitted a 2x2 mosaic of IC405, IC410, IC417 and surrounding nebulosity. Jobs 1975 - 1978
