Pier 8 - Messier 1 - the crab nebula - HOO was created by simonnickydowning
I had some unexpected time afforded to me today, and so I processed the data for this object from pier 8. As we know there is a frosting issue with the camera which significantly affects the subs, which will be sorted next time the team go out to Spain. I tried a few tricks to get rid of it on the stack, and in so doing ending up having some issues with the background - but I am very pleased with the detail in the nebula. I have never seen before that vertical lower piece of nebulosity. I can only say that the crab nebula always looks more like a brain to me, and the new part I am talking about, looks like the partial stem of a spinal cord, attached to it. Trust me for the gore! Anyway, as it is a HOO - I really do not like SHO colours for this object, for some reason - I used 36 Has and 58 OIIIs. Each sub was 5 minutes long, which equals an imaging time of 7 hours and 50 minutes. The scope on this pier is astonishing! Thanks to Steve and Co. for this... Have a good night.
