Hi All,

I have just joined the Pier 5 Syndicate. Looking forward to some OSC images to go with the mono data I have been getting from piers 1 & 14.

Welcome to Pier 5, not such a talkative bunch LOL

The pier really needs some objects putting in so knock yourself out

FYI

  • P5 is almost one f/stop quicker that pier 14 so collects data nearly twice as fast and something to be mindful of
  • The 2400mc Pro camera is 14 rather than 16bit
  • Horizon limits are 25º but for a couple of specials now and then, this rule is bendable :)

Hi Steve,

Yes scouting around for some good targets at this time of the year.

The FOV between Pier 5 and 14 is similar, so I am looking at some combined OSC/narrowband images. Also thinking more about reflection and dark nebulae, but this is not an area I am familiar with. Most of the sky atlases I have major on emission nebulae. Do you know a good source for exploring these darker objects?

Dark nebulas and unusual are my thing so nudge me if you want me to add some interesting stuff

ps not “the” pole as it’s so hard to image but lots of interesting stuff around there to do :)

Steve,

I am working my way through my copy of Stoyan and Schurig Deep Sky Atlas, and cross-referencing some of the B and LBN objects with astrobin. So far found a couple of goodies in Cepheus and Lacerta to Cygnus. Not so excited by the dark nebulae that are gaps in the star clouds, but would like to target some reflectance nebulae where you have cold gas/dust but it is illuminated by stars so you get that lovely sense of boiling texture.

If you have an example of that type of nebula it would help me to get my eye in. I am not sure what that class of objects are called. the Witch Head is the only one I know by name, and that is bright enough to appear in all the catalogues.
