Hi,

No big deal, but for some reason the job queue for pier 2 does not appear to have

been updated for the last 2 days. Has it gone on a strike?

Cheers,

Ray

Hi Ray,

Thats because Pier 2 is temporarily out of service due to a getting itself wrapped slightly.

It should be back in service by next week :)

Hi,

Has pier 3 also got itself wrapped?

I'm not sure what you mean Ray, Pier 3 updated as normal.

Thanks Phil that's reassuring. It's just that it appears to be the same as yesterday's job queue for no apparent reason. Let's see what happens tonight.

Hi Ray, if it didn't do anything then it had nothing to do, both big jobs are moon down only but I am unsure about the rest. The queue once you take those two jobs plus 7293 out does look Spartan mind

Lets see what happens this evening anyhoo

Steve,

Are you back off of your hols? Hope you had a relaxing time.

It must have been a glitch that night because even if it didn't image either of your 2 mega jobs then it would have imaged something else, like M16 or any of the others. I check the Syndicate queues each day to see if anything needs adding to keep them from being idle. The queue on pier 3 may look a bit sparse but there is still plenty for it to do. That's if it ever takes a break from doing yours. :)

Have you by any chance had a look at some of the data so far collected now that they are both more than halfway through being completed? Looking forward to eventually receiving the data.

Cheers,

Ray

Morning everyone,

Behind the scenes in conjunction with our Spanish technicians we have been fighting with pier 2 mount for almost 2 weeks to diagnose what the problem is, after much testing it appears the Dec homing sensor has gone faulty so we have ordered one from Bisque in the USA

In the meantime Pete is going to swap all the jobs from p2 onto P12 seeing as they are not so dissimilar as that way we will keep collecting data for you. It has been fortunate that not much imaging time has been lost with the current freak heatwave of Europe resulting in less than optimum sky conditions.

I have also just purchased an Astro Physics AP1200 so if when we get to Spain (mid July) and it ends up being more than a homing sensor we will simply swap the mount out so we don't get any more delays :)

I hope this is Ok and my apologies for the hiccup while testing, if you have any problems or questions then please let me know

Steve

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the solution you have put forward, that would be a great help. :)

Even though there is only a small difference in the fov between them, pier 12 is 70 percent of pier 2, I would prefer if 3 of my jobs were not transferred. These can all wait for the repair, and in the meantime would assist in getting the remaining jobs completed sooner.

Those jobs that I think will be too compromised are:

Job 1568 Wizard nebula,

Job 1605 Leo triplet,

Job 1623 Pickering's triangle.

If these are not transferred, or if it is easier for Peter to transfer them all but suspend those ones, then that would be great. In fact given that job 1605 (Leo) is very close to completion and was a test of exposure length and how much it might reveal, could this one be marked as completed and removed. I would however appreciate receiving that data without too much of a delay so I can evaluate the results and see if it is worth continuing with when the repair is done.

What you are doing is very much appreciated Steve.

Cheers,

Ray

Steve,

Below is my reply to you, which apparently you hadn't seen. Do you by any chance turn off all notifications received from moi? No reply from you on this and I can draw my own conclusions. :)

Cheers,

Ray, I will check tomorrow what Pete has moved over to P12, in the mean time all jobs over 60% complete I have marked as complete so Phil can send the data over, obviously once the pier is back up you can op the extra in then if you indeed still need any

It just keeps things tidy plus you can check the data I suppose :)

HTH

Hi Steve,

Thank you for the reply, I was getting a bit concerned that you'd 'cancelled' me. :)

I'll keep a close eye on the queue and submit something suitable should it run out of things to do. Also thanks for downloading that old job from pier 6, now pier 11.

Regards,

Ray

Hi Steve,

I believe that the Helix nebula jobs would best be done on pier 2 rather than the replacement pier 12 due to the slightly increased fov of the Syndicate pier. Therefore I'm happy to submit more fill-in jobs for now. However, the Helix only rises 1° above the  pier limit, the same amount as the Sculptor galaxy a recent suggestion of mine on. another pier, so I'm acutely aware that imaging time is limited.

At some point these fill-in jobs need to be stopped being done, using the earlier of the following 2 dates. Either on some fixed date calculated to allow enough time for completion plus some for any retakes, or, when pier 2 is back up. Only you may have an any idea of when that might be.

Just keeping an eye on things,

Cheers,

Ray

Ray, you lost me  with the fill in jobs part, a little confused ? :)

Helix horizons had already been adjusted to suit the object on P12, its the same on P2 also as p2/12 give or take share the same limits

Steve thanks for the swift reply.

Now I'm confused. The Helix would not require any lowering of the limit. Anyway, I'm feeling like I'm between a rock and a hard place right now. :(

I'd been constantly reminded/nagged :) by you whenever the job queue was close to being completed, despite constant assurances from me that I was monitoring it each day, and would be submitting jobs on a just-in-time basis. That way there shouldn't be a long list of jobs to do when you do next visit.

No signs of the Helix job starting so my presumption was that it was somehow being held back. Since I do not have ultimate control of job priorities unlike someone I know, the best I can do is to stop submitting any new jobs once the Helix jobs start to give them a shot.

So why hasn't the Helix started? It would temporarily benefit me if it did.

I bet the missus is glad when you're in the office. Nag, nag, nag :)

Regards,

Ray
