I've just finished calibrating the luminance job for Ic4592 aka Blue Horsehead. No sign of it in the stacked image. :(  So what happened?

By rights we should have ended up with luminance of Ic4592 but RGB of a different part of the sky.  My error was when making the second submission for the RGB data. The Dec coordinates were correct but the Ra was out by around 33 minutes.

Job 1573

Lum   16h 14m 27s    - 19d 11m 15s  correct coordinates

Job 1576

RGB  16h 47m 27s     - 19d 11m 15s incorrect Ra

What I believe we actually have is luminance and RGB that will align but with the following coordinates.

Lum and RGB  16h 41m 27s      - 19d 11m 15s  incorrect Ra

That is why the target does not appear in either of the 2 jobs. The Ra is not either of the two submitted 16h 14m or 16h 47m

What may have occurred is that when the job for the RGB was being entered into the job queue it was noticed that the Ra did not match that of the luminance job, so was thoughtfully corrected. Unfortunately the Ra entered for the luminance may have had by then had the minutes of the Ra swapped around. 16h 41m 27s instead of 16h 14m 27s. So whilst the RGB was corrected it was to an incorrect value. (This is all conjecture on my part.)

Two things to add.

I believe Hoi kindly put in a submission for retakes of some of the RGB data and using my incorrectly entered coordinates. These will not align with what we have anyway and will be likely be out by 6 minutes of Ra. If you're still following this then well done.

The other thing is. I mentioned a few weeks back that I'd been collecting data for this nebula on pier 11 which has a OSC camera instead but uses the same scope. I have that data in 2 parts as jobs 0563 and 0564. I haven't got around to fully processing it yet but have got as far as calibration and stacking. I stacked1 170 of the 2 minute subs some deleted due to clouds etc. Still plenty of data.

Is anyone interested in receiving that data by way as a kind of consolation? If so then perhaps Steve would be kind enough to have those 2 jobs downloaded to the Pier 14 subscribers.

Apologies for my part in this.

Cheers

Hello Ray,

I don't really need the Pier11 data. Because I am also a Pier 5 member and Pier 5 has already taken a great picture of this object.

But I can imagine that the Pier14 members who are not Pier5 members will be happy about the data set of Pier11.

It would be a great thing if the Pier11 data is shared with us.

Hi Darius,

Many thanks for replying and the shout out to pier 5. The images taken of this on that pier I agree are excellent, as are other targets for which images have been shared on the forum. Not being a member of that syndicate it is not possible for me to comment on what is posted there. Suffice to say that it would be complimentary, great scope and camera.

I'm not sure if Steve will read this and your reply, if he does then perhaps he'd get Phil to make available the data on pier 14. Jobs 0563 and 0564 off pier 11. It's never going to match the quality of that of pier 5, and additionally crops the ears off.

Best Regards,

Ray
