Morning all, I know I spoke to you previously via email re this Vikas but I have been monitoring the weather behind the scenes and it appears we will have a clear spell this evening


If this forecast remains so I think we can do it for you all with one small caveat 

Our system does not work on times combined with coordinates as such which is normally what's required for Comets, so we would need to turn off the software and input manually if its clear so to that end

It needs to be started before midnight so I can turn our software back on afterwards and can get some sleep[/*]
We need the exact coordinates etc[/*]
We need to know the time[/*]
do you wish us to track at comet or sidereal ?[/*]

I am not sure what tracking mode shud be used !!
I  am not sure if this comet can be tracked as it is moving in both Dec and Ra .
Normally I wud guide on the nucleus but we have no guiding available i assume
so best wud probably be that tracking has to be at sidereal and exposures short to prevent blurring.

first time I am shooting a comet remotely so have no way to judge what the correct exposure length shud be unless present next to the scope!!
 
If other wud like to chip in as to the exposure lengths?  60 secs ? 120 secs ?

this image on astrobin is the best i have seen so far - Astrobin Comet Leonard
LRGB 9 x 60secs.....so maybe 30 x 60 secs and 30 x 30 secs wud do it for Pier 5

the best time to shoot wud be between 5am and 6am .....

no need to guide with such short exposures Vikas

Yes 30 & or 60s shots should be fine in my opinion also

From memory most comet people tend to use sidereal tracking as there is software to combine and sort it all out. however best to check this yourself

However at 5am I am asleep sometimes lol
let me see if we can perhaps automate it somehow, may I have some coordinates and times please to see if its possible ?
