I think there is an interesting image to be had of the Coma cluster.

You can't see all the galaxies in the Telescopius view, so I am attaching the Stellarium view. There are many more galaxies int eh field if you zoom in.

I would centre the frame on NGC 4889 (Coma B). There are some bright stars in the field so I would suggest 120 sec subs and 2 hours integration.

What do you think?

I like faint fuzzy shots like this as you know :) Its not exactly taxing on the system at 2 hours either LOL

Indeed this area is very interesting due to the amount of galaxies. But I think 500mm is way too little for that region to receive somewhat interesting images. You could hardly recognise most of the galaxies...  3.5m would probably do it ;-)

Looks like an interesting target. I would definitely give it a try.

I agree, and I have done some imaging of this cluster on pier 1. However, the main part of the cluster is over 1.5 degrees wide and has over 10,000 members. I would like to have an image that does not particularly show detailed galaxy images, but concentrates on the astonishing abundance of galaxies. Call it my homage to the Hubbe deep-field!

After all, we take pictures of star fields and clusters, even though we know that they are point sources. It is the overall effect we like.

As it happens I have just ordered  a 20" F/6.8 Dall Kirkham for the next pier so your wish is my command :)

However there are so many galaxies you would need a mega mosaic in order to fit everything in and that would take forever :(
