to the best of my Knowledge yes, however I will double check over the next few days

It may be down to the OAG light leek I mentioned ??

We are taking new darks this week just in case

flats we will re-do as soon as the small light leak is solved

Hi
Still in holidays with a very small laptop. I will try to correted the vignetting next week
But when I looked the fits keyword of flats , they have a strange 1700 focal length, different from light file.

Steve , the flats of pier1 are take with the same gain and offset of light ? Can you do flats dark of the same duration than flat ?
The overcoorect vignetting may be cause by different pedestral it seems

You can always use a lot of artistic licence to deal with the issue.

Elephant Trunk close up from pier 1. Looks more like a pregnant eagle or penguin to me.

Alternatively, when available you can use the colour data from pier 14, in this instance the M16/17 job Florent submitted, with the luminance from the M17 image captured using pier 1.

Hi Richard,

Many thanks for the response and article.

I still accept I may be overlooking something, but I've spent additional time trying many combinations above and beyond any of the suggestions. So for me only, the problem still exists.

I have done all the things suggested in the article using image calibration and image integration separately, but get similar results to what I had before using WBPP. Incidentally are you Using WBPP v2.1.2 because that does calibrate the darks correctly without using the master bias. The control panel feature is excellent in that respect.

I'll do a large amount of cropping for now and look forward to things that occupy the centre only.

I wonder if Florent has managed to improve the situation he was encountering as well.

Cheers,

Ray

Ray,

I have found better results if I don't bias correct the dark frame. That solves the problem of overcorrected corners for me. There are different opinions around. The Pixinsight gurus on the forum say:

"Dark frame optimization is not recommended for cameras with a CMOS sensor. Presumably the preparation of the MasterFlat is causing the issue. Please calibrate the flat frames with the MasterBias only, then integrate the calibrated flat frames to the MasterFlat.

In the calibration of the light frames, don't use the MasterBias. Use the MasterDark (both options 'Calibrate' and 'Optimize' disabled, and the MasterFlat (option 'Calibrate' disabled)."

Off topic : to plate solve with pixinsight , you just go to scripts - image analysis - image solver .

Hi Florent,

Sorry for any misunderstanding, yes it's only pier 1. I've been told that it is an early version of the camera, but not being at all familiar with cmos sensors for astrophotography, I'm not sure if earlier on there were issues and how they were dealt with.

Going slightly off topic, I'm eagerly awaiting those replacement oxygen subs you've submitted for M16 on pier 14. I haven't a clue how to plate solve, but did you ever find out the coordinates of that set of oxygen subs that you are replacing. I did stack them but couldn't quite work out what I was seeing, but it did look familiar.

Cheers,

Ray

Ray, do you speak of calibration file of pier14 or pier1 ? For pier14 I didn't have problem I think.
But for pier1 what I have test now is not very good. My calibrated files of pier1 have a strong vignetting and residual amp glow. As I m just testing with a small laptop , I didn't test very much but it seems that pier1 flats don't give very good result. May be we need darks flats at the exact exposure time . With CMOS camera you can't use scaled dark. Also on different forum , for zwo 1600 it seems that with some drivers there is a lot of amp glow.
I m using also pixinsight and wbpp script.

Hi,

It's probably the case that I'm not doing things right, but I'm not happy with the files after calibration. Severe cropping gives an instant solution, but that is not practical on extended objects when you want to use the entire field of view. I'd be interested to see what others have been able to do on any of the following. M17, Elephant Trunk and Tulip nebula, with any tips on how you improved the corners.

Despite the huge fov on pier 14 the background extraction tools (ABE & DBE) work extremely well, so I'm surprised by what I'm finding here. I use WBPP in pixinsight to calibrate.

Cheers,

Ray

Sorry Phil, I did not realise,

Vikas, you can used scaled darks
from the standard dark library for dark flats by the way. The dark current is so low they will not be needed on the short flats anyway's :) :)

Vikas, ps I got your email this morning by the way

As Pier-1 has only just had the camera fitted i am going to share a test image with interested people (IC342)

I will add you to the list and if you like the data I can sort out how you upgrade afterwards if thats ok ?

My apologies for the slight off topic

Yes we will take them over the weekend all things being equal

We are a little behind as we are still working on 6 piers after the last maintenance visit to get them back to 100%

Hi,
thanks for uploading the older cal files.
For the new July cal files, i only see the darks and the bias. Are you also going to load the flats and the flat darks ?
