Hi all
i just subscribe to ther pier 14 Syndicate and i m proud to introduce my self.

I m florent , from France, 50years old.
i just begin astrophotography last winter. I m a long time amateur photographs , plane spotter.

i study AstroPhysics at university as well as Signal processing . But now i m a computer Admin system :)

i own a smal refractor -90TS600mm and a one shot color camera 533MC . I always want to try narrowband imaging my self but the weather is so ugly since i m began that i prefer to start with this syndicate.

I m interessed in all kind of targets as i beginning :) .
I think i will try to get to some L data to complete my RGB data i can shoot my self. The 6200 and 533 camera have the same pixel size.

i apologyse for my poor english :)

See you soon :)

No, the scope has remained the same at F/3.6 as that's what the members decided :)

The camera has been moved back to vertical position now a new camera adapter has been fitted

Hi Florent,

Welcome and I hope that you will be really pleased that you joined. Right now is a good time to join as with relatively few members you will be able to get more of those that you would like imaged.

Absolutely no need to apologise, everything you've posted is completely understable, and I wish that I'd taken learning a second and perhaps a third language more seriously than I did at the time. Showing my age now, but in my teenage years a day trip to Paris was about as far as anyone I knew ever travelled. So my feeble excuse was, I'll probably hardly ever be able to travel much anyway. Then they invented the aeroplane! :) Just my humour, I'm not that old!

You have a really useful scientific background and given what you do a great understanding of computers. Given that you said that you only recently got into astrophotography but are a keen photographer, what software do you have. Photoshop is what many people use for this hobby, but there are many dedicated astrophotography applications which will make parts of the processing easier, some of which are freeware. I'd recommend a minimum of 16gb of ram given the size of the fits files the camera produces.

I'd be happy to try and answer any questions you may have at any time and as I mentioned earlier, I hope that you'll be very pleased that you joined.

Best regards,

Ray

Welcome Florent!

I hope that you will find this pier setup as fascinating as I have.

This was my first real experience in narrowband imaging, so I am still learning what does and does not work. I am also still in the early stages of learning how to process narrowband data, and am still some distance from what the masters can produce.

With your background in photography you probably already have Photoshop. I don't, so I use Pixinsight which fits better with my scientific and technical background.

As Ray said, you will find that the data from this camera will push your computer hard. Storage is a big need. I have just upgraded to 7TB discs, and they are already half full. I need to do some housekeeping!

One thing I found useful when I started was using Telescopius and Stellarium to think hard about what I wanted to image and how it fitted with the resolution and field of view of the scope and camera. You need to have a list of the targets you want to image throughout the year to help keep the pier busy. Fortunately I am interested in widefield and mosaics of the beautiful nebulae scattered around the sky so this setup is perfect.

Anyway, welcome again. Join in the chat. Put your imaging requirements in the queue and let's see what we can produce together.

By the way, I live in North Wales in the UK. Far enough North that we have no full darkness in the summer. Another reason to use a remote setup further South. Where do you live in France?

Best wishes

Hi all
I live near Lyon , in the middle of France . We planned a trip to Wales this summer but we had to cancelled it because of the Virus...

I m used to work with photoshop and i m learning pixinsight using my data or other remote source. A nice piece of software, pixinsigh, i wish we had this when i was young :).
My computer is quite old, but it still resist ! preprocessing can be long but i launch it at night and it save me heating my office :)

the field of view of this pier is quite wide :) , i m not used to this. I presently trying to make Ultra wide field at home with a 15mm attached to my ZWO533Mc . But it is raining everynight since 3 weeks !!
